Level 1With the release of the skin viewer and templates for IL-2 BoS I was wondering if any of the artists here have any interest in skins for BoS, or at least an opinion on the templates and methodology with the new product which I believe is similar to RoF methods
Thanks for everyones great work

AdminTime will tell if there will be any BoS skins at A&A. So far few of the skinners here own BoS.
At the moment I am doing some tests with the BoS template files, although I am probably the least qualified here at A&A, because usually I am only doing mission building.
The templates are well done and not like the simple template files that came with the old Il-2. So it won't be necessary to start completely from scratch, which will make it much easier for people to begin skinning in BoS.
Apart from the alpha channel in the skins and the .dds format skinning will be almost identical to Il-2 1946. It's even possible to use markings and other stuff from Il-2 1946 templates in BoS.

9 years agoAdminI don't own BoS so far because i'm still awaiting how it gets on - hopefully not sharing the same fate as CloD someday. The latter was no challenge for a real IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 skinner.

Level 1Thanks for the replies, as you say it is still very early days and no-one hopes it will end up like CloD but so far I am really enjoying it and it works very well on my mid range machine, and future support seems to be happening with the upcoming JU-52 and Macchi 202, and the skin viewer seems to be a neat app
Skin templates available here for those that would be interested in a look

The next six months will see how things develop so no rush

AdminFor skinners BoS will surely be more interesting than CloD. In contrast to CloD all parts of the paint schemes in BoS are fully skinable, there are no hardcoded rivet or weathering layers. There are also a few things that weren't possible in IL-2 1946. For example the gun pots of the Bf-109 are part of the skin and it is possible to influence shiny and matt skin areas with the alpha channel.

Main AdminI?ve just purchased BoS and not explored in detail. Concerning skins i?ve done some few RoF skins (check dl section) in the past and it looks to me that BoS skins have to be created the same way, so perhaps i will do some, but no no promises, as i do have only few time atm for my hobby.

I'll second that. -

But please don't wait too long, I will need a BoS version of your Platzschutzstaffel Pitomnik Bf-109G2 skin pack for my first mission building project.
