12 years agoLevel 1Hiya gang...
I'm going way back in time and revising the very first template I ever made. Yep, you guessed it! The F4U is getting an overhaul
I updated it to version 2.0 a couple years ago, but I was never 100% happy with it...I kept a lot of stuff that really should have been reworked or completely redone from scratch (namely the weathering!). So, here's where I'm at with it now:
As for the weathering issues I had from previous versions...here's a close up shot of the engine cowling area in game. Hopefully the effect I'm going for will come through:
The rivets on the fuselage still need some work...they don't look 'right' to me. I'm not sure if it's an opacity issue or what...but they just look wrong. I'll need to go up to Patriots Point in Charleston this weekend with my camera and get some shots of the F4U they have on display in the hanger deck of the USS Yorktown CV-10. Hopefully, I'll have some pictures to share with you all.
The plan is to re-release my old VF-17 skinpack (which is no longer available...I lost the pack when transferring files from my old computer to my new one, and I didn't have a back up copy from my M4T days ) with the updated template. I'll have to rebuild the skins from scratch, but I still have all my research material to work from.
In the meantime, it's back to the books and figuring out how to improve / add to this old girl!
Cheers,
KC

12 years agoMain AdminIf I remember correctly, didn't you make an amazing "Birdcage" template ????
-
Level 1Love these mate. As you know we are currently looking at the Valley Forge, steaming for Korean waters in May 1950...
-
AdminI'll be looking forward to v3. Really loved v2.

12 years agoLevel 1Cheers guys!
I'll probably make several versions of the template...from the early birdcage canopy up to the late models used in Korea. I'm not entirely sure how many versions there will be...I'll do the smart thing and release each model as a separate template, just to keep things simple.

Sounds great mate and looks great as well!
