Level 1I haven't had a whole lot of time to skin aircraft these last few weeks with a big move from San Diego to Santa Fe New Mexico, but as I'm settling in, I'm now working, and planning on releasing a number of Battle of Britain 109's in a pack which hopefully will show the transition of Camo that took place from late May 1940 throughout the Battle which bumped to a end in October of that year then onward to the beginning of 1941.
I was talking with my partner Rock as I do most days and he sent me some photos of the now restored and airworthy E3 that was discovered buried in the sand on the beach near Wissant where it made a forced landing in August 1940 .
In all probability the pilot Eduard Hemmerling was forced down out of gas. There had been earlier reports of human remains in the cockpit but as it turns out, that was not the case, however we do know that Hemmerling was posted shot down and killed that month, probably in another aircraft.
Anyway, as the story goes the plane was retrived in the 1980's and deemed restorable and is now on flying status in the large plane museum in Washington State.
Rock asked me to take a crack at it, so first off went after photos of 6/JG51 aircraft during July and August.
It seems like for the first time the restoration crew got Yellow 5 almost like she looked other than a few differences such as the painting of the wing roots, but that is certainly forgiven. The other thing is they haven't added the codes Yellow 5.
Here is what I have.
Hemmerlings aircraft in all its operational crud, and two grabs of what it looks like today.
Cheers, RDDR
