AdminJust for the heck of it, I thought I would try my luck at wood-burning on paper. I still have a little more practice to do but it will be worth the challenge. My subject was the de Havilland DH 82 Tiger Moth. I was hesitant to post this in that it did not come out as I wanted, but seeing how I haven't been able to do skins for awhile and I had this laying around I figured why not

12 years agoAdminNice work Merv!
Must be tricky to apply all that shading without burning through the paper. Come to think of it, I recall a phrase from the old 'Kung Fu' TV show.. "when you can draw on the rice paper without burning through it, you may leave the temple" ..or something like that
Appears to me me that you've mastered the technique. Cheers mate!

12 years agoAdminNever heard of this - what is the technique/material used?

Armin -
AdminThanks Rudi and Armin for your encouragement. Armin, I use 140 lb, watercolor paper, Acid free and cold pressed. I use a dual control Pyrography machine, it takes getting some use to but I'm slowly catching on to the shading and outlining.
My next project will be the P-51. -
Level 1Yeah,and next your going to post saying your hand is healing well, however you have to wait on the skinning due to a nasty burn etching the P51.
Cheers,Chris -
AdminMy hand is healing nicely and I went to the Doc today and had the stitches removed and he said I should have no trouble drawing, so back in the saddle I will definitely be more careful with fire

Level 7Interesting technique. Nice work on the Tiger Moth.
-
AdminThanks Emel, the technique is a interesting way of burning, the big problem with it is, if you make a mistake it's over, there is no way to correct it. At least with a wood burn you can either sand or scrape out the mistake and start over. When you make a bad burn on paper it is there forever.

OMG! You mean there's no undo button of any sorts with this kind of paper work. I think I'll just stick with Ps-templates and such for now. -
AdminI tried my undue button and adobe eraser but no luck
