AdminHi guys,
You've probably seen various posts around the web about the Mosquito that has been restored to flying condition here in NZ but if not you may be interested in seeing this vid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sKCSLc6WDo
I attended the airshow last Saturday which was the Mossie's first "public" display and filmed much of it with my crappy little camera. I left alot of stuff however there's footage of the Mossie, Anson, Spit TR.9, P-51D, P-40N-1, Trojan, Harvards, Vampire two-seater, Strikemaster and two L-39s.
I didn't take much in the way of pics myself however there're some nice ones to be found here: http://rnzaf.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=airshow&thread=17190

What an excellent thread and vid.
Its so important for the heritage of the world that these aircraft are restored and preserved.
With nothing else truly as good, it also reflects for me the important place of the Il2 sim.

AdminYep, she's a beauty of an aircraft alright, soon to be gracing the skies of Virginia Beach as she's owned by Jerry Yagen. What the vids don't really do justice to is the sound, the Mossie has an aural presence that's hard to describe. Oddly enough she doesn't sound like she's twice as loud as a Spit or Mustang yet there's an edge the single engined kites just don't have.

AdminThe best news I heard is that they kept the forms used to make nearly all the parts for the fuselage and wings.
And they can make more. -

@RAF_Loke - I really like your excellent RAAF Mossie skin;

Fancy doing a fully coded flight that we can build a campaign on? Historical or not I would like to do No.633 Squadron so we could play in the fjords and also nip over the French coast too. There are some thundering good high speed low level bombing missions in a project like that...

12 years agoAdminThanks, but the real credit goes to FlyByShooter for the excellent Mossie template.

Unfortunately for us Kiwis (but not for our American friends!) she'll be in the USA soon with her owner Jerry Yagen at Virginia Beach. Having said that there's another undergoing (flyable) restoration which will be staying here

Yep, that's right they've got the molds to make all the wooden parts. The wood in this Mossie is all new as the original stuff was rotten, however the original metal work was in good condition so most of that has made it into the restoration although the engines are ex RNZAF post-war stock (so are RR units rather than Packards as originally used I think).
