12 years agoAdminAs topic headline says I need help to ID this plane.
My first suggestion were an Avenger.
Later info was added that the pic is taken in the Shortland group of the Solomon islands, and it should be a Japanese plane.
Suggestion came up with Zero, Jake and Rufe. I say it can't be those, wing profile is wrong.
Suggestions gents?!

12 years agoThu Oct 11 2012, 07:27amLevel 1Yeah, but that looks like a big chord wing. I can't see any Japanese aircraft fitting that wing profile. An Avenger could have been left there, or how about a Vought-Sikorsky OS2U Kingfisher?
It looks the right size and shape to me.

12 years agoAdminI'm still more for the Avenger. The wingtips of the Kingfisher is too round.

AdminI think it is a Japanese seaplane. Do you know the exact location were the picture was taken? The Japanese had a seaplane base on the east coast of Shortland Island. The wreck could be a A6M-2N or E13A missing the outer parts of the wings. I know of two E13A wrecks in the Tuha channel of Shortland.

12 years agoAdminI have no further info on the location. But you correct in that the wingtips could be missing.

According to the information at flickr, the second photo is a E13A from the Marshall Islands. -
