Level 7Amazing it is. Great job.

11 years agoAdminNice work Merv; You're really getting good at this. Ever thought of marketing at an airshow, or online; or are you going to continue your art as a hobby?
-
AdminThanks Emel and Rudi for taking a look, and your encouraging comments.
Rudi I was told by a few people that I should frame the work sell them as you suggest at air shows or online. I really don't know the first thing about setting up a online site, I was debating contacting "Planes of Fame" and seeing if I could sell them at their store.
Right know I enjoy doing the art work and giving them to anyone who really wants my work.
My next one will be a wood burn of a Stearman passing over an old barn, a challenge but it will be fun.

No doubt if you will stick to this art you will produce real masterpieces someday.

-
AdminThanks Armin and Boelcke for your kind comments, as to how I do it, I have a couple of shots of my equipment. The first photo in the upper left corner is my woodburning machine, the machine controls the heat temperature to the pens that plug into a RCA fitting, you can switch between the pens with the red switch on the right. The dial controls the heat, this is the modern way of woodburning as opposed to the old soldering iron type on the right. Their are several types of pens you can use for different textures and shading.
A lot depends on how your work will come out, type of pen, temperature setting and speed at which you pull the pen on the wood or paper. In the bottom picture I am working on a pair of Raccoons for a friend, I lightly draw the picture I want to do onto the wood with a soft pencil then lightly burn the parts I want dark, then start detailing. I only use pictures I have taken or that someone gives me to make a burning of it.
Here are some non-aviation pieces I have done:

AdminThanks Greg and Armin for your more than kind comments, after I finish the two Raccoons, I'm going to do the Stearman which will be done on wood and look a lot better than on paper
