I was/am a beta tester... lovely game, wonderful mountains/oceans/trees and great 3D plane models....
biggest hit to me though is they've (for some odd reason) never got the joystick/controls down right. all this time and still when me and others with nice joysticks fly this thing it does fairly well just breezing around, but upon attacking an enemy the stick begins to bob/nod around all over the place making targeting a REAL problem. d'oh!
funny how as soon as you put your gunsight on someone 'suddenly' your view is jittering all over the place.
a few have said it's better in what 'the makers' consider fully realistic mode, but to be honest me and many others don't think so.
results are a LOT of people flying around with their mouse controls since it seems to be much smoother.
I don't know about you guys but i'm just not playing a flight game with a mouse...especially when I've got a three hundred dollar 'stick/throttle/rudder pedal setup gathering dust on my desk.
there's other problems too (as all games have) but to me, this is the deal breaker. I keep thinking they'll fix it...yet so far, far as I know, they haven't.
oh and one last thing that I don't like... simply TOO arcadish. simply (in my mind) not for serious 'mission' role/play gaming.

2 of my sons plays it and I have looked over their shoulders.
Yes it looks good, but also very Arcadish :-/.
And I'm never gonna "fly" using a mouse, no way!
Amazing that such an old sim as Il-2 just still is the best around.
