I remember this story. German pilot took pity upon seeing the crippled bomber and its injured crew, so he escorted them back home and told the other pilots he shot it down over the sea.

He also radioed to flak crews to not fire whilst over Holland... He watched the B-17 crew chuck everything they could overboard, and he also saw the tailgunner dead over his guns....I've read the whole account, but can't remember where.... This is the first time I've ever seen this in video, and even better with the actual pilot's involved....
