AdminThis one is proving a bit hard to find!
Captain Willis Miller was a B-24 pilot in WWII who along with his crew were members of the 392 Bomb Group, 577th/579th Squadron, 2nd Division, of the 8th Air Force stationed out of Wending, England. The Starduster crew flew 30 missions over Europe and despite the ever present dangers and direct hits during combat - no casualties were suffered during their time of service. The entire Starduster Crew received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, while Captain Willis Miller was awarded 5 Distinguished Flying Crosses and Jackson "Jack" Crane, First Lt. received the Silver Star from Captain Willis Miller.
Was the photo you posted a screen grab from the movie "Beautiful Dreamer?"
It's possible the nose art was either created for the movie or there are no known photos of the actual plane. I know of a couple B-17s my grandfather flew in where there's no photos. Since the pilot was so closely involved with the movie, it's quite likely that the movie art is accurate. -
Level 6Yes, it is a screen grab from that movie. I am starting to think there are no pictures, because none of the ones on that website match that small yellow stripe and only one is a B-24D. I'm kinda concerned about what to do about the tail number. If there are no pictures (And it's not mentioned in the movie or the credits), what am I supposed to do about that?

10 years agoSun Aug 24 2014, 01:34pmLevel 6Wait, I think I was wrong, it doesn't seem to be a B-24D:
Either they didn't have 3d models for the D, or (More likely) they just hoped the audience wouldn't notice they used an earlier version of the B-24 in the close up shots and Starduster was indeed a B-24H/J. I guess they couldn't afford to rent Witchcraft and had to settle for the Diamond Lil. -
Level 6So with 4.13 out...This thread's gonna grow real fast.
