Well i finally got my copy of il2 ultimate edition. Ive been looking around for mods. i really like HSFX from what i can see on youtube. Will the HSFX and UP3 work with the ultimate edition? When ever i search for mods on google they say mods for il2 1946. UD does include 1946, so im guessing it will, has anyone modded the ultimate edition?

From your Ultimate Edition I'd recommend only installing 1946. IL2 1946 is essentially Forgotten Battles (FB), Aces Expansion Pack (AEP) and Pacific Fighters (PF) merged together with some extra content and goodies added, and as you have noticed it is the base upon which mods are added.
Be aware that 1946 is at version 4.07 when installed so you'll need to patch it up to a newer version before you install any mods. Said mods will say what version you'll need but seeing as the most up to date version (v4.12.2) has been out for some time, that is what you'll need to be patched up to for most mods.

Thanks for your reply. Yes your right, its the one i bought. When you install it you dont get an option to install 1946. It just installs all of the packs. The version straight out of the box is 4.1.11 funny thing it says that there are heaps of mission but i cant find as many as they say there are. Another confusing thing is, you cant start the game and play 1946 or Aces or Pacific Fighters. I think they are just missions. Is this right. Im new to this sim and theres quite a bit to learn.

Ok I see, so it installs all of it in one big lot which is why you won't be able to see '46, AEP or PF separately as they're all merged together. In regards to the number of missions available, I believe that total number they mentioned is including those generated when one plays a career campaign plus those available in the Single Missions menu.

So far as mods go I'm guessing you meant to type 4.11.1 rather than 4.1.11? If so I recommend experimenting with your installation to see if you can patch it up to 4.12.2, and if that works then apply HSFX and UP3 to it. The great thing about IL2 is that you can have multiple installs (so long as you have the disk space of course) so you can use one as a back-up if you botch the patching process.

Seeing as you're already at 4.11.1 then you'll need to apply 4.12, 4.12.1 and 4.12.2 in sequence and don't forget to launch your game after each patch is applied to check that it has worked before applying the next one; the patch number will show on the launch screen.

Correct, its ver 4.11.1 i have downloaded the patches and now its up to 4.12.2, thanks. Im currently downloading HSFX 7, 5gb, it will take a while. Need more practice flying, for a fairly old game, it great. When i improve, i wouldnt mind trying some online gameplay. I assume there are still, free servers running?
