AdminThanks guys!
@ Juri: thanks a lot for that picture- it gives me a much better idea of how the paint was applied... though that also means I may have to go back and re-do those layers...
Also, regarding the tail stripes, I've heard some various explanations, but the most common seem to be that they were either a navigational aid (to measure drift), or an aiming aid for the rear gunner. I'm more inclined to agree with the first option.
Also, regarding the N1K1...
Again, still WIP, but this one's pretty close to being ready to do some generics. -
12 years agoLevel 1Wow Josh,
Some really great looking work you've got going!
I'm not much of a fan for skinning IJAAF or IJN aircraft...but, DAMN! I might just need to beg a template from you to skin a couple planes! (not including the Ki-43 templatle you sent me almost a year ago...it's seen some mighty fine times! Just nothing public...yet)
Cheers!

Level 1You know what Keith,we should definitely be taking a closer look to the new zeros by Japan Cat.
Not sure, but I don't believe there are any templates of
any quality,although I could be wrong -
AdminJust a quick update: just got the N1K1 skins approved!

And thanks guys! If you do start work on a new A6M template, let me know, and count me in! I've wanted to do one for awhile, but just couldn't bring myself to re-trace all of those panels and rivets from the new void... I swear, I had had just finally finished mine when the newly mapped zeroes came out and ruined everything... -
AdminFinally some good skins for the Shiden, thanks a lot.

12 years agoWed Jul 11 2012, 09:53pmLevel 1Hey Josh,
I'm currently working on updating / revising a couple of templates...the P38 & F4U Corsair, plus I'm looking at building one for the P-61B. Even though that's a lot on my plate, I'll take a stab at building a better basic line set / 3D work on the A6M2. From there, it should be fairly easy to modify the basic structure to the later models. I agree that just getting started on a new 'from scratch' template is a real pain in the ass! I could certainly use your help mate!
I think I have a copy of your old A6M5 template, perhaps I could convert the mech sets for the different manufactures into the new 'Japan Cat' model? I'll have to take a look and see what's all involved.
I'll update the 'Front Page News' item on Friday to showcase your new N1K1 pack. I'm doing it on a 'schedule' of sorts...updates are done Fridays & Saturdays.
Cheers!
KC
EDIT: A little bit of progress this afternoon...I had forgotten that I had already started making a template for the Zero shortly after Japan Cat's 3D model started being more widely used. I made a few adjustments and am just playing around with the lines and rivets...just looking to add more 'depth' to the flat areas of the texture: http://www.axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?1745.last -
AdminAnother quick update for everyone:
I just finished two generic packs for the Ki-43-I and -II; they should both be available here at A&A shortly!
Also, I'll be heading back to Michigan tonight to visit family there- but I expect that I'll have quite a bit of free time, and I'm hoping to be able to make some big progress on the Jills and Kates. I may not have internet access, but I'd say it'd be safe to expect something new by the end of July! -
AdminGreat job, I am sure I will use a lot of your new skins the next time I update my PTO DGen campaigns.

12 years agoAdminNice work Josh, they look great!
The Tigers are having a homestand 16-22 July, perhaps you'll be able to see a game at Comerica. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable visit.
All the best! ~ Rudi -
