12 years agoSat Feb 16 2013, 11:17pmAdminThanks for the feedback, guys!
I was up a little late last night...
I played around with the weathering for the -Ds to break things up a bit, but didn't want to do too much, mostly because the template is at almost 700 layers already, and it's starting to give my computer a hard time, so I didn't want to push my luck... I think I added a fair amount of variation, though! -
12 years agoMain AdminAs Armin said they are indeed.

Adminwell, I've been doing some research, and it appears I may have jumped the gun with the Bottisham Four skins; I just came across some new photos showing the right sides (and corresponding art) of Lou IV and Sky Bouncer... I'll try to to get some updated skins finished this week!

AdminThese are great man, but seeing as you'll be tweaking them... I'll take this opportunity to point out that, on Suzy-G, the yellow band around the nose doesn't quite line up on the underside.

AdminHi all,
I haven't forgotten about the P-51s, but I have been a bit distracted, mainly by two things:
1. Real life is about to hit me full force- I've been unemployed since graduating from university last August, and as such, I'm having to make some tough decisions- some good, some less so. The good news is, I've decided to forgo looking for a job in my degree field of communication, and go back to a local tech school in the fall, to pursue a degree in aircraft maintenance. The bad? I'm still at a complete loss as to how I'll pay for it all... Time will tell, I guess. Sorry for the venting/spilling... I figured since there's aviation involved, it might be worth sharing...
2. I recently got my hands on another amazing template, and have focused my work accordingly. Let's see if anyone can guess what it is:
I'll give you a hint: I've skinned this particular plane once before, waaaaaaay back in my first couple years of skinning. (I may include the original in the download as an example of how far I've come...) I've also got a personal connection to this aircraft, as my great uncle was one of the many pilots who flew her throughout her long career! -
12 years agoAdminIs it a B-24? It looks like a liberator to me. The additional pilot armor plate is visible.

AdminYep, it's the Liberator.

12 years agoThu Mar 07 2013, 07:35amAdminBingo! You guessed it, guys. Did I make it too easy?
It is the B-24: Emel was kind enough to share his awesome template with me, and I've combined bits from it with my old template, which was a conglomeration of my own work and bits by Jarink and Jesters-ink. The one drawback is that, like the P-51 template, it's over 600 layers, which means that my computer's not a huge fan of having it open with other programs running! O.o
To be more specific, I'm working on the well-known B-24H from the 467th BG, 790th BS, "Witchcraft." My great uncle, Fred Jansen, flew her on her 125th mission: a strike against the marshaling yards in Brunswick, Germany. I'm planning on skinning her at a few different points in her career: sometime before the 100-mission mark, at 100 missions (where she received updated nose art), at 124 missions (so I can recreate my great uncle's flight), and at her final tally of 130. So far, I have the 100, 124, and 130 mission skins done, just working on a bit of research for the earlier ones. I've had to make a few concessions in the details of the skin (particularly the cowling fronts and cowl flaps) due to the mapping, but overall, I think I've got her pretty accurately depicted.
A few screenies:
124 missions:
130 missions:
I'm also planning on skinning a few more of the 467th's Liberators, mostly from the 790th, so that Witchcraft can have some friends to fly with. The first one is "Angel," which also completed over 100 missions, and returned to the U.S. to be scrapped:
The plan is to finish these skins and a couple others along with some generics, and release them as a whole pack. After that, we'll see. The 15th Air Force had some cool unit markings; I'm tempted to try something with those if I'm not burnt out on the template after finishing the 467th!
