Main AdminHi,
just some impressions from me about the Fw 190A8 ...
Do you have some sources about the plane with a description of the upper side and the lower side of the wings? The late produced planes from around november 44 do have unpainted areas on the lower wings and dark leading edges. Also the colours changed from RLM 74/75/76 to 74/83/76 or 82/83/76.
Personaly i prefer the Crandall colours for late war planes, years ago Phas3e collected them into one picture:
but i konw that´s a matter of taste or believing
Looking at the screenshot from your plane i suggest to reduce the panel lines some more, to let the surface look more smooth. In the public template from the Fw 190A8, the panel lines are totaly overdone, the stencils too. I did some trial and error with the Fw 190A8 to create some generics as a replacement for the vanilla skins, perhaps this screenshot shows what i wrote about the panel lines (it´s only a wip):
So, perhaps there are some aspects that are interesting for you. German late war planes can realy be an exhausting work. -
2 years agoThe white 11 of the 5.(Sturm)/JG4 took part at the Bodenplatte operation. Her WNr. was 681497.
Perhaps this would tell us where and when it was made and therefore how it was painted. But I don't have the resources to find the information.
This aircraft is well known because it was photographed by the Germans as well as the Americans. One finds them easily on the net as well as profiles or the Eduard notice. It gives the traditional blue-grey underwings and RLM74/75 on the upperwings.
I also have in my library the two volumes written by Erick Mombeeck about the JG4 and the Sturmstaffel 1. The profile in them is also designed with the traditional colours.
There is still a lot to do to make the skin satisfactory. It's true that the structure lines, especially the rivets, stand out too much at the moment.
These German camos are a real headache! From one day to the next, I always forget which brushes I used and found the most suitable.... -
Main AdminForgot to say, don´t trust painted profiles. I have the JG 300 diary from Lorant/Goyat with a lot of profiles which are realy good looking but i doubt the colours, especialy from the late war planes.
Anyway, hope to see some more pics on your way. Good luck. -
Main AdminSome bad news Jerry Crandall has passed from complications of Covid 19.
