They look like umbrellas, which would stand for a "Top Cover Mission", however the 357th did fly on "Operation Frantic",the so called "Shuttle" missions to Russia ??

Yes, I'm leaning towards umbrellas too (cover missions). But they would be closed and the handle in the air whereas they are usually extended with the handle down... Not sure about then.
