On the Stormbirds blog an interview has been published with members of the KarttaKomppania team that builds the Karelia map for Il-2 GB:

I am in contact with the team and will support the project by building campaigns for the map.

Both the map and my campaigns will be released for free to all owners of Il-2 GB, although the team accepts Patreon donations that will be used to improve the map and further expand the map area after the initial release.

Here's my project for the Karelia map:

The map will be released together with a free scripted 12 mission fighter campaign for the Fw-190 A-6. The player will fly as pilot of Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey.

Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey was a Luftwaffe detachment that was send to Finland to support the country in the summer of 1944 during the Red Army's Vyborg–Petrozavodsk offensive.

The detachment was based at the airfield of Immola and the following units belonged to it:

- I./Schlachtgeschwader 3 (Ju-87 D-5)
- II./Jagdgeschwader 54 (Fw 190 A-6)
- 1./Schlachtgeschwader 5 (Fw-190 F-8)
- 1./Nahaufklärungsgruppe 5 (Bf-109 G-8)

You will fly fighter missions during June and July 1944 and participate in the battles of Tienhaara, Tali-Ihantala, Viipuri Bay and Vuosalmi.

I am also working on a fighter-bomber campaign for the Fw-190 F-8 that will be released after the fighter campaign.

Any news on a release date?
