1.P-47D-22, 227910, "Hun Hunter XIV" flown by Gilbert O. Wymond, CO of 65th FS, 57th FG, MTO, Corsica, Italy, 1943-45. The pilot of "Hun Hunter XIV" Maj. Gilbert O. Wymond is best known as the man who turned the P-47 into a fighter-bomber. Most of his Huns were hunted on the ground. He achieved three aerial victories. He served as commanding officer of the 65th FS from spring 1943 until the end of the war.
