10 years agoFri May 30 2014, 04:40amAdminLong ago I made a Mk VIII template and made some skins from it, however I got the urge to rework it so the following screenies are of how it is at the moment. Bare in mind that these are very much w.i.p and there's a lot to be done: plenty more weathering, paint chipping, stencils, bits of equipment (e.g. gun camera) etc. etc. etc.
First up is just a general view:
Next is a close up showing the new rivets I did for the engine panels as well as the fuel spills for the main tank (forward of the cockpit) and the wing tanks (just inboard of the cannons):
This is an attempt at leaking oil. The Merlin could be a leaky old thing, there're photos of Spits with undersides nearly covered in oil! Obviously I'm not going that far and as you can see it needs plenty more work:
As for what schemes I'll skin once the template is ready... definitely some US and RAF MTO schemes and most likely some SEAC and RAAF skins as well.
Cheers,

10 years agoAdminHi Harry,
It looks very well to me. As we don't have any (active) spitfire skinner/template maker for long now
i'm looking forward to these works. The spit is a well sought after bird in the game.

10 years agoFri May 30 2014, 04:31pmAdminA few days ago I was looking for some nice MTO spitfire skins and I was surprised to no find a lot of them.
Now it's ok ! -

AdminCheers guys. In some ways I feel like I'm reinventing the wheel as long ago many great Mk VIII skins were produced by the likes of Kristorf and Mangas, but regardless there're some great schemes I want to try my hand at even if they've already been done.
Thanks for the link Alan, I definitely had that page in mind when I started this project -
AdminI spent this evening working on the weathering, more to do on the upper surfaces but the undersides are looking good except for some work to do on the oil leak on the air filter/intake.

AdminI had some time to do some skinning this weekend and so got some more work done on this template. I'll wait till I've done some more before I show some more screen shots, however what I worked on was mainly in revising the cammo pattern (interestingly the factory desert scheme often included a lower cowling demarcation line and painting the underside of the cannon barrels, not something done on other schemes), as well as a host of smaller details like new stencils, moving the identification lamp, paint chipping etc.
It's almost done and once I get it to work on the clip wing as well then I'll be ready to do some skins... -
AdminJust a few screenies to illustrate my previous post. Note though that the underside indent lamps and the fuel cooler in the port wing root will not be used on many of the skins, I'm just showing them now for illustrative purposes.
On a slightly different note, does anyone happen to know what the circled part of the skin is mapped to? I had thought that it was for the radio behind the cockpit (which can be exposed depending on the damage) but it's not. It's rather obscure so I might ask this on a number of the forums.

AdminIt has been awhile but today I played around with some colours...
