Toulouse, France, 27 October 2026 - Atlantic Airways, the national airline of the Faroe Islands, has signed a firm order with Airbus for the purchase of two A320neo aircraft. The order supports the airline’s transition toward an all-A320neo fleet, driving operational synergies and streamlined maintenance.

Atlantic Airways currently operates four A320 Family aircraft, comprising two A320ceo and two A320neo.

“Our ambition is to operate an exclusively A320neo aircraft fleet in the near future, and this agreement marks a significant step towards achieving that goal,” said Niels Mortensen, Chairman of the Board of Atlantic Airways. “This investment will help ensure the continuous renewal of our fleet while supporting efficient operations.”

“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Atlantic Airways as they advance toward a complete A320neo fleet,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business. “By adding two additional latest generation A320neo aircraft to their future fleet, the airline is reinforcing its commitment to regional connectivity. We look forward to continuing our support to facilitate efficient connections for the Faroese communities.”

The A320 Family is the world’s most popular single-aisle aircraft, having won more than 20,400 orders globally. The Family offers at least 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft, while maximising passenger comfort with one of the widest single-aisle cabins in the sky.

For more than 41 years, Boston MedFlight has provided lifesaving critical care transport services to more than 115,000 patients, with Airbus serving as a longtime partner in this mission. Today, Boston MedFlight operates an all-Airbus fleet. The addition of three twin-engine H145 helicopters over the coming years will support the replacement of existing aircraft while enabling incremental fleet growth, further strengthening Boston MedFlight’s ability to transport critically ill and injured patients between regional healthcare facilities and directly from emergency scenes.

“These aircraft are essential to our mission, enabling our skilled pilots to safely transport patients while our medical crews focus on providing lifesaving critical care in transit,” said Maura Hughes, CEO of Boston MedFlight. “We’ve operated a variety of aircraft over the years, and the H145 continues to be the right fit for our mission today. It meets the demands of flying throughout New England, while offering the cabin space and flexibility to outfit the aircraft with the equipment we need to care for our patients.”

“Boston MedFlight performs vital, lifesaving missions every day, and Airbus is honored to support their essential work,” said Bart Reijnen, Head of the North America region at Airbus Helicopters. “The five-bladed H145 delivers the ideal combination of cabin volume, smooth flight characteristics and Helionix safety technology that critical care crews need to operate safely and effectively in challenging environments.”

The latest version of the Airbus best-selling H145 light twin-engine helicopter features an innovative five-bladed bearingless rotor that increases useful load by 150 kg (330 lbs) while simplifying maintenance routines and enhancing flight smoothness for patients and medical staff. Powered by two Safran Arriel 2E engines with dual-channel full authority digital engine control (FADEC), the H145 is equipped with the Airbus Helionix digital avionics suite and a high-performance 4-axis autopilot, increasing operational safety and reducing pilot workload.

Worldwide, more than 1,800 H145 family helicopters are in service, logging over 8.9 million flight hours across emergency medical services, public safety and civil missions. The three new rotorcraft will integrate into Boston MedFlight's existing aviation network, supporting around-the-clock emergency medical operations alongside the organization's dedicated critical care ground vehicles.

Saab today confirms its intention to collaborate with several of Canada’s major international aerospace firms in a first step to establish a broad, national ecosystem that will build, deliver and support the Gripen E advanced multi-role fighter, should the Government of Canada proceed with a Gripen acquisition.

If selected, Saab and its Canadian partners will establish a comprehensive, in-country capability for the production, final assembly, support and further development of airpower capabilities. The collaboration would also include in-service support (ISS), training and long-term sustainment capabilities.

“Canada's fighter capability is a long-term national investment. Together with CAE, IMP and Magellan Aerospace we are prepared to establish a strong Canadian industrial ecosystem around Gripen that delivers operational effect, national sovereignty and lasting industrial and technological benefits," says Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab.

Saab has signed a new Teaming Agreement with IMP to establish a new final assembly line, for the Gripen fighter in Canada, if Canada decides to acquire the aircraft. IMP will also be responsible for electrical assembly production and ISS for Canada’s Gripens.

Saab has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with Magellan Aerospace to provide local manufacturing of advanced aerostructures, composite structures and structural assemblies in Canada, if Canada decides to acquire the aircraft.

Airbus and BAE Systems are expected to discuss possible cooperation on the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), as Germany evaluates its options for a future sixth-generation fighter. The talks, reported by the Financial Times on October 25, 2026, could explore collaboration on the aircraft, autonomous combat drones and digital systems connecting aircraft, sensors and other platforms.
GCAP is a joint programme involving the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan, with the goal of introducing a next-generation combat aircraft from 2035. BAE Systems, Leonardo and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are central industrial participants, with their joint venture, Edgewing, responsible for developing the fighter.

Germany’s interest follows the breakdown of the Franco-German-Spanish Future Combat Air System fighter project. Joining GCAP could provide German industry with a role in an established programme, but negotiations would need to address industrial responsibilities, intellectual property, funding and existing agreements among the founding countries.

No agreement has been announced, and Airbus has emphasized the need for substantial participation by German and wider European industry. The discussions remain exploratory, with the programme’s 2035 target a key consideration.
