Main AdminThis midweeks photo and a well known one, however this is a very good HD version.
Built by Metropolitan-Vickers in Manchester as Mk. I. Delivered to 83 Squadron, RAF Scampton, 29 June 1942 as OL-Q "Queen." Transferred to the Australian 467 Squadron September 1943 as PO-S "Sugar." Completed 137 combat sorties and then participated in food supply and POW repatriation (Operation Exodus). Marked as "non-effective" but kept in storage as being of particular note due to the number of missions completed. Struck off 16 March 1956 and transferred to Air Historical Branch. She survives at Hendon.

In September 1944, the final Hawker Hurricane (PZ865) departed from Langley, piloted by PWS ?George? Bulman who had flown the type on its first flight some 9-years earlier. Ironically, Bulman retired shortly afterwards and surrendered his pilots? licence, opting for a non-aviation career. In total some 6,912 Hurricanes were built at Langley.
