And a nice shot of P-51D "Little Sweetie 4", 44-64051 of the of the 362nd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group at Leiston.piloted by Col. Evans. Of interest are the two identification lights on the side of the fuselage, there is little written info on this set of lights. However they were the equivalent of today's "slime lights" on most military aircraft, they were to allow pilots to help know where their wingman, or other formation aircraft are.

Tempest Mark Vs lined up on completion at the Hawker Aircraft Company works at Langley, Buckinghamshire. The nearest aircraft, JN818, served with No. 3 Squadron RAF and was flown by the Commanding Officer, Squadron Leader K A Wigglesworth, when the Newchurch Tempest wings attacked a V2 launch site in a wood 20 miles north of the Hague on 13 September 1944.Wigglesworth fired on the target that caused a huge explosion that destroyed his aircraft and killed him.
