Baseler piloting a U.S. Air Force Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star aircraft (tail number 58412) "Wee Stud" in the Canal Zone, July 13, 1948.He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving as a P-40 and P-47 Fighter Pilot, 325th Fighter Group, 15th Air Force, in action against the enemy in the Mediterranean Theater of Action during World War II.Credited with shooting down 6 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. He retired in 1962 as a U.S. Air Force Colonel.His P-47s were adorned with the noseart "Big Stud".
