And a detailed shot of a 315th Bomb Wing B-29B, the first unit to use the APQ-7, "Eagle" Radar. The antenna appeared as a 16 ft wing below the fuselage between the bomb bays. It replaced the APQ-13 Radar.Only one unit, the 315th Bombardment Wing of the 21st Bomber Command was fully equipped with Eagle, flying for one month before the war ended.

P-47D-2-Re's in flight, based at Perry Army Air Field,Florida.
Developed on 862 acres on the site of the Perry Airport, the Perry Army Air Field became operational on June 9, 1943. As a sub-base to Dale Mabry Field in Tallahassee, this field operated under the authority of the 338th Fighter Group of the 3rd Air Force. Pilots received their final training in P-40 Warhawks, P-47 Thunderbolts, and P-51 Mustangs. With the close of hostilities, the last pilots left Perry AAF in September 1947.
