AdminThere was an obvious aerodynamic penalty with this sort of installation in the nose. It made sense in a lot of ways to move the radar back to the ball mount. It left the chin turret alone, which was a must for breaking up head-on attacks. It was less prone to damage from vibration and shell casings/links from the guns (note the plate that extends under the chin turret). There was also lots more room internally for all the equipment in the waist.
