10 years agoMain AdminP-51B 42-106950 of the 354th Ftr Sq, 355th FG at Steeple Morden. Originally assigned to LTC Clairborn H. Kinnard, Jr, the ship was nicknamed "Man O' War." Ownership was transferred to LT Robert E. Hulderman, who renamed it "The Iowa Beaut" - but still carried the ten kill marks compiled by its previous driver. The "Beaut" went down on 11 September 1944; CAPT Kevin G. Rafferty was KIA (MACR 8676).

AdminFunny how everyone knows about (and skins) the AVGand their P-40s, but once they became the 23rd FG and finally got Mustangs, they became virtually unknown.

10 years agoSat May 31 2014, 12:39amAdminI wonder what that under wing ordnance is? Kinda reminds me of incendiary stick bombs, if that's the right terminology.

AdminI'd say the new carburetor didn't work too well.
I'm still trying to figure out those underwing stores on that P-51. Quite the mystery! -
