Leading Aircraftman G.A. McKeown, left, and Leading Aircraftman R.H. Lavery, members of the RCAF?s 427 ?Lion? Squadron, carry out maintenance on Handley Paige HP 63 Halifax B. Mk. V bomber ?London?s Revenge?. The ferocious winged lion on the aircraft?s nose carries a bomb while the ?Lana? is in honour of the blonde movie star of the same name. The squadron was adopted by MGM Studios in Hollywood because of the shared lion logo and MGM allowed the squadron to display the names of movie stars such as Lana Turner on its aircraft. 427 Squadron had completed 20 bombing trips at the time this photograph was taken.

North American A-36A Apache 42-83665 Margie H preserved at the U.S. Air Force Museum
North American A-36A Apache that carries construction number 97-15883 is displayed at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. It flew for the Army Air Force as 42-83665. Kendall Everson and Essex Wire Corporation registered it as NX39502 in 1946. It flew as race #15 City of Lynchburg II in the 1947 Bendix Trophy race. It crashed during the race in Cleveland, Ohio on September 1, 1947.


James Hannon and Hanby Enterprises changed its registration to N39502 in 1949 and flew it as race #2. Harry McCandless and Bill Widfelt acquired it in 1950. It was stored at Council Bluffs, Iowa from 1949 to 1954. Walter H. Erickson of Minneapolis, Minnesota bought it in 1954 and sold it to Charles P. Doyle of Rosemount, Minnesota in 1963. The U.S. Air Force Museum acquired it in 1971. The Minnesota Air National Guard restored it for static display in 1973. It is displayed with its original AAF serial number and is named Margie H.

CPL Ruby Newell (C), named "Prettiest WAC in England," is surrounded by admirers at Fowlmere as she poses in front of her namesake. P-51D 44-15315 "Miss E.T.O." (coded 6N-Y) was assigned to 1LT George W. Jones, Jr of the 505th Ftr Sq, 339th FG. It was written off in a takeoff accident 22 March 1945 with LT John F. Rice at the controls.

And this week three of a very rare bird, Hawker Hind HB-HAL she was delivered to the Swiss on the 20th February 1936.
She served in the communication and liaison role until the summer of 45.
She was powered by a Rolls-Royce Kerstel V engine of 640 HP.
