12 years agoFri Oct 25 2013, 12:33pmAdminTime to show you one of my campaign projects for Asura's new DGen. Over the last weeks I have created a campaign on the Khakhin Gol and Manchuria maps for the Soviet air force and the Japanese army air force. The campaign will be for the stock game, but it can also be played without problems in UP and HSFX. It will consist of four parts:
Lake Khasan, July - August 1938
Khalkhin Gol, June - July 1939
Khalkhin Gol, August - September 1939
Manchuria, August 1945
In the first three sub-campaigns it will be possible to fly Japanese and Soviet fighters from the late 30s, like the Ki-27, I-15 and the early I-16 models.
I am sure everyone here will know the battle of Khalkhin Gol (called Nomonhan incident by the Japanese), but I guess not everyone has heard of the Lake Khasan/Changkufeng border incident. It took place in 1938 in a disputed area between the Tumen river and the Khasan lake. Hundreds of Japanese and Red Army soldiers died in this battle. The Lake Khasan sub-campaign is semi-historical, in reality only the Soviets used aircraft in this conflict.
Players flying for the Soviet air force will have a hard time in the first two sub-campaigns. Compared to the I-15 and the early I-16 models the Ki-27 is a real killing machine. The fight will become more equal when the I-153 and the late models of the I-16 arrive at the frontline.
The final part of the campaign will show the Invasion of Manchuria in the last days of the war, when the Soviet air force had a clear numerical and technological advantage over the few Japanese air force units in the area.
One of the problems I had when I build the campaign was the fact that we are missing many important Japanese aircraft from the late 30s, so I had to use the S-328 as a substitue for the Ki-4 and I created a fake Ki-30 skin for the D3A.
The campaign is 90% finished, but there are still a few issues when DGen version 1.0.1.0 is used, so the release has to wait till the next DGen version is ready.

Hunting Soviet bombers in the Ki-27.
My Ki-30 skin for the D3A.

AdminI found two very interesting threads from the Axis History forum with photos from the Khalkhin Gol and Lake Khasan battles. Most of the photos show ground troops, but there are also a few aircraft photos.
