The Northrop N9MB Flying Wing, built in 1944, performed for the crowd at the First Annual L.A. County Air Show March 21. It was built as the fourth and final plane in a series of test aircraft for the Northrop XB-35 Flying Wing bombers. The aircraft was one of four prototypes built by Northrop, but the only surviving aircraft left. The 68-year-old plane is the grandfather of today's B-2 stealth bomber. In parallel, Airbus will also undertake advanced performance tests with the aircraft before it flies back to Toulouse for preparation of its delivery to the airline in the second quarter of this year.
Asiana Airlines has firm orders for six A380s and will operate the aircraft from Seoul initially on regional services in Asia followed by long-haul routes to the US. -
10 years agoFri Mar 28 2014, 06:35pmMain AdminAshgabet Turkmenistan, March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today delivered the first 777-200LR (Longer Range) passenger aircraft to Turkmenistan's national flag carrier, Turkmenistan Airlines. The airplane is the first of two 777-200LRs Turkmenistan Airlines has on order. The delivery coincided with the opening of a new terminal at the Ashgabat International airport.
"Boeing and Turkmenistan Airlines have been partners for more than 20 years and we've seen the airline grow to become a successful company," said Marty Bentrott, Vice President, Sales, Middle East, Russia and Central Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The airline continues to invest in its fleet, increase profitability and provide best service to its valued customers. Boeing is proud of its longstanding and rewarding partnership and we look forward to growing that bond for many years to come."
"We are very excited about the delivery of the new 777-200LR, which will be a fantastic addition to our fleet," said Merdan Ayazov, chief executive of Turkmenistan Airlines. "The performance and range of the airplane, as well as its great economics will contribute significantly to our fleet expansion strategy."
Turkmenistan Airlines' fleet modernization plan started in 1992 when the airline became the first in the Commonwealth of Independent States to order airplanes from Boeing. The airplane will join Turkmenistan's fleet of airplanes, which currently include seven 717-200s, three 737-300s, four 737-700s, five 737-800s and four 757-200s.

10 years agoMain AdminSeattle, Mar. 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Ryanair showcased their strong partnership with a new, co-branded livery on the airline's most recently delivered Next-Generation 737-800.
The airplane features the distinctive blue Boeing colors on the fuselage of the airplane, while Ryanair's name is featured toward the rear of the aircraft. On the tail is the recognizable golden harp logo found on every Ryanair 737-800. The airplane is one of nearly 300 737-800s currently in Ryanair's all-Boeing fleet.
"The 737-800 has been the foundation of our recent successful growth thanks to its great engineering and phenomenal reliability," said Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary.
In June 2013, the Irish airline ordered an additional 175 of the world's best-selling single-aisle airplane. O'Leary said the newly ordered airplanes will expand Ryanair's fleet to more than 400 737-800s and create more than 3,000 new jobs for pilots, cabin crew and engineers.
"Ryanair has been a loyal Boeing 737 customer for nearly 20 years, so this blended livery is a great way to honor that longstanding partnership," said Todd Nelp, vice president of European Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Over the next five years, Ryanair expects to serve more than 110 million passengers across Europe. "That will enable us to lower our costs and cut air fares even further," said O'Leary.
Ryanair describes itself as Europe's favorite low fares airline, operating more than 1,600 daily flights connecting 186 destinations in 30 countries.

10 years agoMain AdminTyphoon Display Scheme for 2014
This year the RAF Typhoon Display Team will be showcasing the Typhoon with a unique aircraft paint scheme. The impressive design was developed over the winter training period to make the Typhoon even more outstanding for this year?s display season. The engineering team at 29(R) Squadron used the skills of local aircraft and technical illustrator, Adam Johnson, to create the design. In a lead up to 29(R) Squadron?s Centenary year in 2015, the design pulls together various historical markings from previous types.
Flight Lieutenant Noel Rees, the 2014 Display Pilot said;
?Adam has brought together all the prominent aspects of 29(R) Squadron?s heraldry in a really eye catching design. The team from Serco have done an excellent job on BX, making this design a reality and I look forward to flying it throughout the rest of the workup and at air shows. The entire Display Team are proud that they can be able to work with and support her during the summer?
The design was taken on by Serco, the contractor responsible for maintaining the Typhoon fleet?s paint at RAF Coningsby, to bring it to fruition. The team of aircraft paint specialists completed the work over a period of 7 days and have rolled it out this morning back on the flight line at 29(R) Squadron. The aircraft, ZK343 originally designated EA in 6 Squadron markings has now become BX and will be the pride of 29(R) Squadron?s fleet of over 15 aircraft. Flt Lt Noel Rees will be using this aircraft, along with the other team aircraft (BW), for over 50 public displays at around 30 venues, throughout the season.
